Ingredients

  • 8 chicken drumsticks (about 4–5 oz each)
  • 1–2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1–1½ tsp salt (to taste)
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1½–2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1½–2 tsp smoked paprika
Optional Variations:
  • 1–2 tsp lemon pepper seasoning
  • 1–2 tbsp BBQ dry rub + BBQ sauce (for glazing)
  • 1–2 tsp Cajun seasoning

Equipment

  • Air fryer
  • Meat thermometer
  • Mixing bowl
  • Tongs
  • Paper towels

Method

  1. Pat drumsticks completely dry with paper towels to remove moisture (key for crispy skin).
  2. Place drumsticks in a bowl, drizzle with olive oil, and coat evenly.
  3. Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and smoked paprika (add seasoning under the skin if possible).
  4. Optional: Let rest at room temperature for 15–30 minutes for more even cooking.
  5. Preheat air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for 3–5 minutes.
  6. Arrange drumsticks in a single layer in the basket (do not overcrowd).
  7. Cook for 22–25 minutes, flipping halfway (around 12 minutes).
  8. Check internal temperature; it should reach 165°F (74°C) minimum (175°F for more tender meat).
  9. Remove and rest for 3–4 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Store in fridge up to 4 days or freeze up to 3 months
  • Reheat in air fryer at 375°F for 5–7 minutes
  • Avoid microwave to keep skin crispy
  • Great with rice, vegetables, salads, or dipping sauces
